What is the purpose of the minbar in a mosque?

The minbar is the usually wooden structure incorporating the stairs that is used for the announcements of the talks, and is positioned in the front part, separating the imam from the other believers. In the beginning, the minbar was used for variety of things, from the daily announcements to the special occasions, yet as time passed it was used way less for the leaders, and more for the imam to deliver on a speech.

The minbar was designed so everyone could hear and see the imam as they deliver on a speech, and while the modern day minbars are used to deliver on the speech during the Friday prayer and features the microphone and the speakers, the historical value was merely for the clear announcements, and the orders that came from God through his prophet.
