What is the place of worship called in Islam?

The place of worship in Islam can literally be any portion of the ground as long as it is clean. However, the usual answer to this question is the mosque, even though the mosque isn’t strictly the only place you can pray in. The mosque represents the institution that gathers the Muslims, and the institution that deals with the certain rituals such as the prayer for the dead, or the Friday prayer that is to be prayed strictly with the group of people.

The mosque is usually rich in design and it features recognizable architecture, and separate high part called minaret which Imam uses to call people to a prayer. The inside of the mosque features minbar and separate floor or the part of the mosque for a woman to pray in. It also features the Arabic calligraphy writings on the walls.
