How many names are given to Allah?

While we usually use the name “Allah”, the fact is that in Islam “Allah” is only an Arabic word for “God”, and considering the religious sources, it isn’t the only name you can use. According to the holy book, Allah has 99 names, and they are to be used in various versions of the prayer.

The example being the name “Rahman” which is quite common in prayers and it literally translates to “The most Merciful”. According to the belief, the different names are to be used when in a need of a specific things, whether we seek the forgiveness or the relief of the pain. All of the 99 names have equal value and they all represent our Lord, and therefore aren’t allowed to be used as regular names when naming the children.
